Background Research Summary

For the last three years our organization has focused on studying the educational challenges here in East Jerusalem, with particular focus on young children. The organization’s first goal is to improve the opportunities for children’s education, as well as to improve the quality of life they have in East Jerusalem.  With that goal, the organization has performed several studies related to children’s education in our community. According to the data received from Jerusalem’s statistics, it is clear that there is a need for 120 kindergarten classes in East Jerusalem. Fewer than 70% of eligible children have access to schooling and fewer than 30% who are in school are in a good atmosphere for learning.

Our professional staff have done field studies on the existing kindergartens in East Jerusalem and have found extremely difficult and poor conditions for the children in these schools. The primary problem that they suffer from is overcrowding, along with an unhealthy atmosphere which exists in almost all of them. This drastic situation has inspired us to establish a new kind of kindergarten based on a completely new model.  We have designed a school with a very different structural,  educational, and (most importantly) philosophical basis than exists anywhere in Jerusalem today.
