About Jerusalem Kindergartens
The first building was purchased in 2007 for $450,000 and over $100,000 was spent on remodeling. 3 buses have been purchased at an average cost of $25,000 each. Computers, desks, chairs and all other necessary classroom materials were also purchased. In the first year enrollment was approximately 90 children. Almost all the families were unable to pay tuition, so the income of the school was only $1500 per month. In 2008, through some additional funding, a top floor classroom was added to the school building and a piece of land next to the school was transformed from a vacant, junk-filled lot to a garden with on-ground swimming pools and play equipment. Over 400 kids attended a summer camp there in 2009!!
Both children and parents loved the camp, and as a result the school’s enrollment has more than doubled. This school year there are over 200 students, which brings in about $5000 per month. While this is a considerable and welcome increase, it has also meant higher expenses for new classrooms, supplies and additional teachers. |
